Our 2021 Parade of Homes Renovation took top honors again this year as the Grand Award Winner! Meet one team member who helped make it happen.

We want to take a moment to acknowledge Bryan, our Construction Supervisor. Our Parade of Homes 2021 First Place and Grand Award-Winning remodel in Winter Park was the first time Bryan has led a project on his own. From day one, he rocked it, and we are so proud of the leader he’s become. temp-post-image

Learn a bit more about Bryan through our popular "Meet the Team Q&A":

Q: Why did you get into the homebuilding field?

A: Homebuilding runs in my family: my Dad, Uncles, and grandfather all work in the construction field, and it is something I just enjoyed doing since I was a little kid. In high school, I started working with friends and some family and started from there and worked my way through all facets of the industry, from painting to carpentry to countertops to a bit of electrical.

Q: When did you start with Hardwick General Contracting?

A: I had a close friend of mine who did roofing for Greg for a while. Greg was looking for a handyman kind of guy who knew how to do multiple things. He tried me out and I worked as a subcontractor for him for a long time. I got really close with the family, and eventually Greg asked me to work directly for him.

Q: What does your job entail?

A: My career has changed throughout the years and now it is more of project managing of the home building jobs. I ensure scheduling is on point, I work with homeowners directly, especially on renovation sites. I keep the homeowners aware of what is going on, and keep the schedule to make sure we get done promptly. I supervise the jobs, making sure everyone is doing what they need to do.

Q: What is a typical day like for you?

A typical day would be visiting multiple projects, checking out everything and working on our schedules and doing our logs. I also make sure our homeowners are aware of what is going on at their job sites.

Q: What is the most unusual request that you have had for a home?

A: We get a lot of unusual requests. Here in Florida I think heating the bathroom floor was the most unusual thing I have ever heard. We ended up putting a membrane floor down, and placing a heat strip underneath the marble floor, so they don’t get cold feet when they step into the bathroom each morning.

Q: What do you like most about your job.

A: I have really enjoyed the remodeling jobs where I get to work directly with the homeowners who are usually close by. We communicate sometimes around the clock, since it’s a big responsibility to be inside their home, and I want them to feel comfortable and confident about what’s going on. I like sharing the process and describing the things each day. When they walk through it, I enjoy letting them see how the job is working from, from the beginning to the end. It is challenging, and I pride myself in keeping them happy throughout the remodeling process.

Q: What advice do you have for people who want to build a custom home?

A: I recommend that people building a home make all their selections early and try to stick with them. People don’t realize that changing just one tile can change the timeline by a few weeks. I recommend that clients try to get their designs down and double check on everything. Before you really want to hit the ground running. When it comes to timelines, minor changes that you think might be little actually will hurt you. So it’s best to make sure your floor plan and all your decisions are made, and that you are pleased with them before you start.

Q: What is the most important thing you have learned in the last nine years?

A: The most significant would be finishing things in a timely manner. And integrity and honesty is very important: do not hold anything back from your customers. Be entirely truthful with them. That’s really important to me.
